Confirming what we all probably suspect has been happening for a while. Traditional newspapers just aren’t fast enough with most preferring to look online or at television sources of news. According to this report, newspaper are out and Twitter is in. With students stating ‘…that newspapers were impractical, they fall apart, and you have to buy them,’ And you can’t help feeling their pain when they complain that, ‘There are too many long-winded articles, there’s no search engines and worst of all they get ink on your fingers.’

dear, why didn’t here just ignore Dangerman – he played right into his hands. It’s so obvious that he is after attention and wants a reaction. And what is wrong with cheese anyway? I too like cheese! It is like Derek Powazek has put up a “don’t throw stones at this sign” sign; he’s made a confrontation out of nothing. I suspect that Derek has a bit of a case of “you must respect my authority”. He states that his site is like his loungeroom – sorry but it’s not. Physical loungerooms have doors where access is detirmined by who you want to let in. Cyberspace is a little more problematic that that. I think derek needs to lighten up a bit. Oh well i suppose he learnt from his mistake. I don’t know about you but he makes me feel like posting “innappropiate” things on his site.
Thoughts about the readings from week 5

A website or blog should have a clear purpose or message. It should aim to be updated regularly and if you advertise that you will update on a certain date or time make sure you do that. Audiences need to know where they stand, they want certainty. Uniformity of your site is crucial so that your audience feels that they are at the site they intended to go. This means that the site should have a consistent navigation, graphics and branding – you need to fulfill audience expectation. You should also keep you content consistent ie if you are an arts blog don’t start talking about the football unless it is really relevant to the arts. This way you can build up audience trust we equals return clicks.
Web narrative wk5

I don’t know about Bernstein’s article on web narratives. Stories in books and movies or around the campfire are different from the story of a product. Products are inherently boring and that’s good. Boring is good because it means that you don’t have any complaints. I think it’s through complaints that the narratives begin. The guys from Top Gear always create narratives from the complaints they have about the cars they review. I think the narratives about products and services can run the risk of becoming infocommercials which i don’t think many of view as gripping pageturners.
